Jean Jacket …
A poem for you …
I managed to salvage that jacket
from the charity pile …
I still like to wear it
once in awhile …
I can’t quite recall how
I ended up with it …
When you left
I guess you must have forgotten it.
That jacket … Your jacket
It’s worn and weathered and missing a button now …
Understandably, after all these years
You wore it, the night we met, you staggered over … somehow
The bar was crowded … You’d had more than a few beers.
It was a laugh … a bit of fun
I wasn’t really looking for anyone.
But I found you …
and there is was, love …
unexpected, yes … but … true
I really really loved you
I couldn’t believe you’d want to be with me
You, full of life and carefree
Me, well …
Sadly, when I was with you … I didn’t know who to be
The world seemed against us
I don’t know why …
Some people are just assholes
That, we can not deny.
